Welcome to ENC

Hiring
*Please note, updates will be made to this page in the spring of 2019 as we get closer to hiring season!

Our Vision for Hiring:
The ultimate goal of our hiring process is to have all of our corps members hired before the first day of school. When thinking about the home counties of corps members for the 2019-20 school year, we will focus on:
-
Placing teachers where your leadership has the most potential
-
Clustering teachers in schools, in an effort to build stronger coalitions of leaders in our counties

With a focus on these things for the 2019-20 school year, we will continue to fuel the local movements we need in order to reach One Day.

All of the information you need related to Hiring can be found on Google Classroom beginning in February. You can also find an overview of the hiring process here (check back soon for an updated link for this year!). Please note- this is a sample from last year just to give you an idea. As the hiring season gets closer, this page will be updated.

On this page you will find important paperwork that needs to be completed for all corps members. Please check this page regularly for updates.

1) North Carolina Public Schools Health Certificate and TB test results
-
You will need to have a health exam and the certificate signed by your physician dated after March 1, 2019. The form must be completed within six months of your hire, so certificates dated prior to this will not be acceptable. We ask you to do this prior to arriving in North Carolina for Induction. If there is an emergency and you are unable to have your exam completed prior to June 7, please reach out to us.
-
You will need to have a tuberculosis (TB) test done and will need to provide the results of the test on the health certificate or on a separate form. TB tests take a few days in order to be read, so keep this in mind when you are planning your health exam. You can often have a TB test done at a Minute Clinic or health clinic. This also needs to be dated after March 1, 2019.
-
Please MAKE A COPY of your health certificate and your TB test results for your records before submitting them to us. If your health form is lost or misplaced for some reason, we will ask you to provide us with an additional copy. Please mail your health form and TB results to the address below(coming soon!) or scan and upload your health certificate and TB results in Google Classroom. You are also welcome to bring them to Kate directly during Induction check in.

You can scan and input these in Google Classroom, or you can mail them to:

2) Praxis II and Pearson Scores
-
Passing scores on the Praxis II/Pearson tests are required for the district to apply for your initial lateral entry license in North Carolina. (If you are already licensed, please see the section on submitting your license below). Failure to pass your required tests or submit scores on time could mean that we do not place you, or if you are placed, you will receive substitute level pay (without benefits) until a passing score is received.
-
Please submit the official copy of your score report by downloading the score report through the ETS website (Praxis) or the Pearson site and submitting them via Google Classroom.
-
If you designated Teach For America as a score recipient, we will receive notification of your score electronically, but we do not receive the official score report required for the district to apply for your initial license. You will need to submit a copy of the PDF score report from your account.

3) Official degree-conferred transcripts from all universities attended, including undergraduate and graduate (even universities from which you did not graduate).
-
Degrees must be conferred. This means it has your degree and the date it was conferred on the degree. Please note, your graduation date is not the date the degree is conferred. It often takes a few days or a week after your official graduation date for the degree to be conferred. Do not send transcripts until the degree is conferred. It is worth checking with the university to determine this date because we will require you to request additional copies if they are incorrect.
-
If you graduated in December 2018 or prior, you can send your transcripts at any time, and we encourage you to do so ASAP. If you graduate in May or June 2019, please wait until the degree is conferred. You should check with your university on that date before requesting transcripts in order to avoid having to resend them.
-
If your university offers official electronic copies of your transcript, these are acceptable. Please send them to ENCRegion@teachforamerica.org. Electronic copies are official electronic copies sent directly from the university to Teach For America. Scans of hard copy transcripts do not count as official electronic copies.
-
Your transcript will need to show a cumulative GPA of 2.7 or higher in order to be hired in North Carolina. If your university does not use a standard grading system with a GPA, please contact us.
-
Please request two copies of each transcript to be sent to the following address, if you are requesting hard copies (hard copies are preferred over electronic copies when possible). Or you can bring them to be turned in during Induction check-in:

After you are placed in a school or district, complete the paperwork below:
In order to be officially hired by a school district in North Carolina, you will need to submit an application and the paperwork listed below. The items listed on this page are required for all districts.

Check out this link (which will be updated in June) for specific district paperwork that is needed. Each district has it's own tab on the document, so please make sure you're looking at the correct tab. Please do not send district-specific paperwork to Teach For America unless otherwise specified - direct that paperwork and any questions to the district contact. It is likely that each school district will have additional new hire paperwork for you to fill out when you sign your contract and begin working later this summer.

After you are placed in a traditional public school district (excluding charter schools and Pitt County):
Please submit an online application to work in North Carolina Public Schools.
-
If this is your first time applying to teach in NC Public Schools, you will need to create a new account. (This is a new system for NC so even if you've had an account in the past you will likely need to create a new one.)
-
Complete your preferences once you're logged in. For the "Region" they are talking about the region of the US, so choose "South". In terms of "Profile Sharing" I would suggest clicking "I do not want my profile to be viewed by other district administrators".
-
After completing your preferences, click on "Job Opps" at the top and search for your district. In some cases, the specific position for which you are being hired will be listed on the site. In this case, to apply for a specific job opening at a School District, find your placement position and click on the paper/pencil icon to apply.
-
If you do not see your specific position, don't be alarmed. Simply apply for a Generic Licensed Position under the district you have been placed in. To do this, search for the District and then click the paper/pencil icon to apply.
-
Please note: By submitting a general application, other districts and schools have access to your information. In rare cases in the past, corps members have been contacted by schools who were interested in their application and in interviewing them. If this is the case, please let them know your situation as a Teach For America corps member and that you will already have employment. We don't expect this to happen, but it could.

Pitt County has their own application. Please complete that here.

If you are placed in a charter school, they will be in touch directly with next steps.

The following paperwork is required for employment in all schools (including charter schools and Pitt County):
- Praxis II/Pearson Scores, Official Degree-Conferred Transcripts, NC Public Schools Health Certificate and TB test results (see above for instructions)

Corps Members who are licensed to teach or have graduated with a degree in education should also submit:
1) Teaching License
-
If you are licensed or will be licensed by Fall 2019, please submit a copy of your license (back & front) via email to us.
-
If you are licensed in another state, your district will help to transfer this to an NC license.
-
Licensed teachers will not be required to take additional coursework towards your full license (unless you wish to pursue the master's degree).

2) Form V

3) Copies of all test scores required to obtain the license

You can scan and email these, or you can mail them to:
